In my hope of eating better and well cause I was bored with what I was cooking I decided to follow recipes of cookbooks I have here or ones I can borrow from the library. Right now I am on a Rachael Ray kick and the other day I made Scramblewiches. It was a thumbs up and something I will cook again for the family.  Here's a link that has the recipe in it. I used deli ham, chedder cheese and chives. Otherwise I did what the recipe said and I doubled it since I had 7 people to feed verses the 4.

Happy New Year!

I know I have been MIA from here but with holidays and starting homeschool etc life got to me. BUT I wanted to wish a heartfelt Happy New Year to you and yours. May 2011 be the best! However you celebrate may it be with warmth and cheer. With those that love you. See you next year! Thanks for being my friends and reading me!

Some pictures from our celebration last year!

Tomorrow Night

TLC is putting on a new show. Perhaps you have heard of it? On Dec 29th at 8pm EST there will be a show called Extreme Couponing. I am a couponer so of course I have my dvr set to record. I don't know if this show will give a good or bad name to those that attempt to save on their family's grocery bill but hey hopefully it shows the benefit of what coupons can do for you.

Here's some more information if you all are curious in looking it up.

Nathan Engels aka MrCoupon from  will be one of the couponers featured.
Joanie Demer (one of the owners of KrazyKouponLady blog)
Amanda Ostrowski which WUC interviewed for their Frugal Tv which is found on  Here's a link so you can see what I'm talking about.
They should have her interview and new episodes by tomorrow.

Joyce House

Anyways I'll be watching. Let me know what you think and I'll try to remember to write another post of what I thought!

Hip Homeschool Hop

What are some of your new year resolutions that you have
Did you set any new goals?
*This is a place holder so I can come back later and answer these questions!*

If your a homeschooling family this blog hop is pretty great and you should give it a try!

The Nutcracker And The Mouse King

I've not ever really read the Nutcracker. I remember seeing the ballet when I was a kid but that was it. I loved this story. It also kept my 9 year old boy's attention. It was a little long and we had to break the reading in two nights. But that was not a hinderance at all. I'd highly recommend this book if you are looking for a classic holiday story to read.

Menu Plan Monday

I hope everyone had a awesome Christmas or whatever it is that you celebrate. The holidays are not quite over yet with New Year's Eve on the horizon. This week I thought I'd try some new recipes. I was getting tired of the old standby's. I was going to start in January you know with the new year I thought why  not start with a new way of eating? But since I most likely need to go to the grocery store on Wednesday I thought I'd try my new way of cooking this week. Most of the recipes are coming from  Rachael Ray's 365 No Repeats cookbook. I had the cookbook for a while and I thought it was a neat concept! Anyways here I go! Oh and if you are looking for more ideas please go over to for inspiration!

Monday-Bacon and hashbrowns- I had made a Christmas breakfast casserole and this is what I had left ingredients wise. Besides who doesn't love breakfast for dinner?

Tuesday-Pork Shoulder Roast-I haven't decided if I am going to slow cook it or just let it cook in the oven since it is not sweltering hot anymore.

Wednesday-Scramblewiches *New Recipe* I will try to post next week what we thought. In reading it it sounds like a spin of a egg and meat sandwich. This is a link to a lady who followed this recipe with pictures.

Thursday-Smokey Turkey Shepherd's Pie *New*

Friday-Appitizers For NYE we usually stay home with the kids and have 'finger foods' such as egg rolls, bagel bites etc. In other words quick and easy and serve yourself style. Junk food at it's finest. Hehehe.

Saturday-Beef Goulash*New* This is a little different from what I'll be attempting. I will be using egg noodles instead.

Sunday-Mac N Cheddar with Broccoli *New*

So what are you eating this week?

Gingerbread Angels Running Away!

Tonight my husband and son made gingerbread cookies. We didn't have a gingerbread man or woman cookie cutters so we made gingerbread angels. Let me just share the blurb I put up on my facebook.

Look what happens when you make Gingerbread cookies with eyes! My husband read the Gingerbread story to our boy. They had made the cookies before reading the story. This is what happened after they came downstairs from reading the story. The cookies trying to run away! The got as far as the husband's car! One was left behind because he was blind.

This was the book they read. Though it was just in english! Hope you all are making memories and traditions with your families! Merry Christmas!

A Couple Cute Christmas Reads

I read these two books to my son tonight. Thought they were cute and worth sharing. We liked The Dog Who Saved Santa a little better.

Christmas Crafts from Around the World

I went to the library the other day after reading other blogs that were talking about what Christmas books they were using etc. I have seen that others have even used a Christmas Around the World as a unit study. I've only flipped thru this book and I'm not certain if we will get to use this book this year. But I was pretty impressed with what I saw. On the back of the book it says its geared towards 7 to 11 year olds. So I thought I'd give a heads up about a possible good resource in case you were still looking. Or if you just wanted to do some fun Christmas related crafts with your kids.

Hip Homeschool Hop

This is my first time joining in this hop. But I've been admiring some of these blogs from afar so to speak and figured it was time for me to get 'involved.' As some of you know this is my first year trying out homeschooling. I am homeschooling my youngest. We have been doing independent study for the last 2 months or so with his previous school and will be moving on to a charter school with a emphasis in homeschooling starting on January 3rd. I chose to go this route so that my son could still recieve services that he needs like speech therapy. And being a newbie in this I figured I needed all the support I can get. But now I have babbled enough. If your a homeschooling Mama maybe you'd like to join in this hop to!

Lunar Eclipse

I hope you all had better luck in seeing it. What little I could see it was beautiful. But I just didn't have the right camera to capture the beauty. This was the best I could do.
See the tiny speck? Yeah that's the moon! Happy Winter!

Visiting the Past: Mission San Juan Capistrano

Mission San Juan Capistrano (Visiting the Past)

Aww there's no pretty picture to go with this link. But the boy and I just finished this book as we are learning about Missions that were here in California. He had to learn about San Juan Capistrano. This book was a easy read and I appericated the pictures that gave us a illustration of what life may have been back than. So if you have a 4th grader interested in learning a little bit about California history I'd recommend this book.

Tales of the Otherworld

I just finished this book by Kelley Armstrong. I do like her as a author and it was nice to have a collection of her 'short' stories again. But it didn't wow me or anything. But if you like reading about supernatural things like vampires and werewolves this is not a bad book to pick up.

Meet Me On Monday

its been a while since I have participated. And since I have some down time I figured I would!

1.  How do you order your steak?

2.  Are you superstitious about anything?

3.  Who is your best friend (not including your spouse)?
I am not sure if I have a best friend. Well besides my spouse. I have really good and close friends that I'd do anything for though.

4.  When is the last time your wore a dress (for the guys...a suit)?
It's been a while. Just not into a dress anymore. Oh wait. Most likely in October when I went to go visit friends in Vegas and we dressed up for the Ren Faire
Though this picture is at least a couple of years ago.

5.  Do you have any trips scheduled?
No. Though there's talk of taking a train ride and the man has something planned for anniversary in Feb!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I think this is a great book to read to your 4th grader. Well because that is what I did exactly. Both he and I enjoyed learning the story of Praiseworthy and Jack and their adventures in going to California for the gold rush. It even kept me the adult entertained it definetly will keep a child's attention to. A fun addition to read when studying about the gold rush.

I am a member of  Lapbook Lessons and they had some links that you could use to supplement any Christmas teaching you were planning on doing with your kids. I thought it would be good if I shared the links with you in case you were interested. I know for me I'm always interested in things like that! And no Lapbook Lessons did not ask me to write this post. I am doing this on my own and this is of my own opinon. Thanks!

I hope this was a help to any that appericate those kind of things. If you'd like to check out Lapbook Lessons you can find them here.

Nothing is for Granted

I am so heartbroken right now. I'm suppose to be going to bed so I can start my morning somewhat coherently in a few hours. But all I can think about is the Mother and the sisters that lost their 11 year old sister just a couple days ago. We got news today that one of the girls that goes to the local middle school passed away in her sleep. Her younger sister was a classmate's of my son's. And I am just so sad for the whole family. I didn't know them really and only had seen  the younger sister here and there. But I can't even imagine the loss they must be going thru. The shock. I would be so devesated if something had happened to one of my children. And as selfish as this sounds I hope I don't outlive my children. I can't even imagine the pain if I were to experience that. So if your a parent hold your child (children) close. The only guarantee we have in life is death. Make those memories. Tell them you love them even if you are fighting or do not understand them. It may be the last words they or you ever hear from them. Don't sweat the small stuff. It really doesn't matter in the end. Just make sure your kid knows how much you love them by words and actions.

Julie & Julia

I wasn't sure of what to think of this movie first. I watched it tonight and at first I couldn't get past the voice that Meryl Streep used. But in the end I came to love the movie. I had to giggle at myself as Julie had made a cooking blog and to blog about her experiences and it made me think of the blog world of now. How even now people out there have certain themed blogs like cooking. So if you have not seen this move I say its worth watching! Invite some girlfriends over and have a movie night. But I also think it would be a good date night movie and your SO may even find some joy in it. This movie makes me want to totally do something ambitious like follow a cookbook for a year.

*Disclaimer: This is just my opinion of what I thought of this movie. I was not paid for my opinion or given a dvd to review.*

Wednesday Hodge Podge

1. Have you ever been on a real sleigh ride? How about the warm weather version-a carriage ride?
No I can't say I have. But I have role played being on a sleigh ride on a game that I play on.

2. What's your policy on 'chain mail' know, the emails you receive that are often some sort of poem/blessing/good wish that ask you to send it on to 10 or 12 friends? Do you delete without opening, read and trash, read and trash and then worry you won't be blessed/lucky/protected? Do you delete the sender from your contact list or just go ahead and send the love onward?
I usually skim the emails. I don't send them on as I don't believe in them but I don't delete the person in my contacts as its usually family that sends me those things and I know they mean well.

3. Who is your favorite character in any of the Christmas movies and why?
I don't have a favorite character persay but I sure do love the Charlie Brown Christmas.

4. Share a favorite quote.
There's a quote that I will probably mangle but the general jist is. "There's nothing you can do about the length of your life but what you do in it." And let me share a quote that I know is right. "The greatest thing you will ever learn, is just to love, and be loved in return. "

5. What's your favorite holiday scent?
Carmel Apple

6. Does the Christmas season stress you out? In what way?
It depends on how ready I am for the season. I'm feeling a little stressed right now as I don't like having to worry about what I have to get for my nieces nephews sisters etc. I would rather worry about what to get for my own family but that's the way things roll around here.

7. What's the best thing about your life right now?
That my God loves me. My kids and husband and my scrapbooking group.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Wednesday Blog Hops

I promise one day soon I'll post a real post. Hehe. Just been busy with everyday life and now with the challange of homeschooling my son that by the end of the day all I want to do is leave comments in the blogs I read in my google reader or find blog hops to follow. Hope everyone has a fab Wednesday!
