Rock N Roll Fridays

Hi I'm DJ KathyA! Welcome to Rock 'n Roll Fridays. We are like other memes in that we will ask you thirteen questions each and every Friday. But our little "twist" is that each week we will pick a singer, band, era or category and pick thirteen of their lyrics. Each of our questions will be based on the lyrics. Got it? Great! Let's begin this week's meme!

Today we picked John Cougar Mellencamp. The song's lyrics are in bold.

I think the first grown up thing I did was when I went out of state for college. I remember being thrilled when I opened my first ever bank account. Well checking account.

3. PINK HOUSES “There's a black man with a black cat livin' in a black neighborhood

He's got an interstate runnin' through his front yard, You know he thinks that he's got it so good

And there's a woman in the kitchen cleanin' up the evenin' slop, And he looks at her and says, "Hey darlin', I can remember when you could stop a clock."

What is YOUR favorite “evenin’ slop”?
Well meal wise I could eat Mexican food every day of the week. Snack wise probably something nutty.

Hey hit the highway”…

What is your best “pick up” line?
Hahaha. I don't think I have one. Thank goodness I haven't had to use one in over a decade.

6. CRUMBLIN DOWN “Saw my picture in the paper, Read the news around my face, And now some people don't want to treat me the same”

Were you ever in the newspaper, on TV or the radio?
I don't think so. Unless you count the school newspaper. In high school I was the photographer and than later the co editor.

7. PAPER IN FIRE “Paper in fire, Stinkin' up the ashtrays, Paper in fire, Smokin' up the alleyways”

Have you ever smoked? What is your favorite smoking product. Cigar? Cigarette?
When I was 12 I tried a cigarette with my cousin.I didn't particualrly care for it.

8. AUTHORITY SONG “Well, I fight authority, Authority always wins

Well, I've been doing it since I was a young kid, I come out grinnin'”

What is your favorite rule to disobey?
Most likely the speed limit.

9. R.O.C.K. IN THE USA “Voices from nowhere, And voices from the larger towns, Filled our head full of dreams, Turned the world upside down”

10. SMALLTOWN “Well I was born in a small town, And I can breathe in a small town, Gonna die in a small town, Ah, that's prob'ly where they'll bury me”

What is the best part about living in a small town?

11. CHERRY BOMB “That's when a smoke was a smoke,

And groovin' was groovin', And dancin' meant everything, We were young and we were improvin', Laughin', laughin' with our friends”

When and where was the last dance you attended?
Ummm hmmm. Maybe a New Year's Eve celebration a few years back?

What’s your favorite expression?
I don't know!

Do you have a favorite poem or at least a favorite poet?
The poet that comes to mind for me is Shel Silverstein. I loved him as a kid and appericate him as an adult.

LOve your answers! Mexican every night sounds scary tho. I think most of us are speed limit sinners. ;-) Cool about your school paper experience. Amazing the stuff we do in school and never try again. Have a great weekend!
